Projects

Our new school in Malualkon, South Sudan is nearing completion. We thank our donors for making this possible.

This project will not only provide education for the entire community, but the construction itself is providing jobs.

The construction supplies were purchased locally in Aweil Market, shown here.  We were able to boost the local economy and found the materials we needed.

The builders we hired were local men who worked all day in the hot sun (110 degrees at times) and  they slept at the work site at night to watch over the supplies. We couldn’t have asked for a better team.

We installed a well at the school site ahead of construction.  The well provided clean water for the workers. The well has also helped to make the school site the center of community life.  This is important because we will soon be offering classes to the community on health, agriculture, literacy and business.

The community classes will take place after the school day is over at 3 pm. From 8 to 3 we will be operating a secondary school and leadership academy.  Our students will be taking college prep courses as well as lessons on conflict management, community education and development.

The students at Malualkon Secondary School and Leadership Academy will become servant leaders that will help rebuild their nation after 30 years of war and genocide. Our students will serve their community as they acquire their education. They will help with the community education program and they will participate in community service projects.

The construction is nearly complete but now the real work begins as we prepare for opening the school.   We thank you for your support and we look forward to working together to raise up a generation of servant leaders.

We are looking for several key sponsors. We will be hiring 6 teachers at a yearly salary of $4200  each. The headmaster’s yearly salary will be $8400. The total needed for our teaching staff is $33,600 annually.

All donations are tax deductible. Your sponsorship will help to educate and fortify an entire community for generations to come.  Please click on donations to learn more.

Testimonials

  • ~ Maine East High School

"When we brought a couple of speakers from the Lost Boys Rebuilding Southern Sudan to our school several years ago, all teachers involved agreed it was beyond an educational experience. The gentlemen tell their stories with such passion and importance, making it evident to every listener that not only do they remember their past and live each day with it, but they will spend the rest of their lives making the situation in Sudan more promising.  Ultimately, they have taught our kids many lessons from the history of the war in Sudan and the current climate there, to life lessons about dedication, diligence, and determination. Now, year after year, we bring back these courageous young men to tell their stories and pass on authentic experiences to our youth. There is no better way to teach empathy than presenting students with the firsthand account of these gifted and generous young men. -Eric Coval, English"
