Why are you involved with LBRSS?

Their are several reasons I am involved with Lost Boys Rebuilding Southern Sudan. First off, I myself am inspired by the Lost Boys’ perseverance in the face of adversity and I want to help them  share their message with other people who need encouragement. Secondly, I know that no one can truly be free without access to education and the people of South Sudan have suffered alone long enough. Most importantly, I believe it is a miracle that the Lost Boys survived near starvation, dehydration, militiamen and animal attacks, and that they are here with us today. I want to witness what God has planned for this nation that has withstood 30 years of oppression, war and genocide with out losing faith in Him.

Where do you live now and what do you do?

“I live in Geneva, Il with my husband Tim and our four children. I am an advocate for refugees and an active volunteer for LBRSS. I help the Lost Boys connect with community groups, churches, businesses and schools. I also help the Lost Boys tell their stories through an interview format. This allows the audience to hear firsthand  their accounts of survival, teamwork and perseverance in the face of unimaginable hardships.”

What do you want to teach the next generation?

“I want the next generation to know that nothing is impossible. Even when a situation seems hopeless never ever give up. I have learned this from my friends the Lost Boys and all they have overcome. This has helped me not become discouraged as my sight is diminishing from Retinitis Pigmentosa. I am grateful for all they have taught me.”

What is your hope for the future?

“My hope for the future is that through our efforts we will help raise up leaders who are willing to put themselves second and the needs of their nation first, just like  the Lost Boys. The Lost Boys of LBRSS have sacrificed so much to help educate the future leaders of South Sudan, they inspire us all to do the same. “

"It has been inspiring working alongside this dedicated group of young men. They came here to America with nothing more than determination, faith and optimism and they have taught us all the true value of education. Our education is not only to better the quality of our own lives but to equip each of us to make our communities, our nation and our world a better place for everyone. The Lost Boys are servant leaders, they work tirelessly to access help for South Sudan while sharing their stories of survival that encourage all of us to never give up no matter how hopeless a circumstance may appear at the time.
