Our Mission

Our mission is to educate students in the newly independent country of South Sudan so they have the skills necessary to help rebuild their nation after 30 years of oppression, war and genocide. We also seek to inspire people around the world to face adversity with hope and courage by sharing the fortitude exemplified by the Lost Boys of Sudan.

Rebuilding Hope

“Education is the key to independence in Southern Sudan; a nation can not be free without education.”

- Samuel Anei Co-Founder of LBRSS

A generation of children has grown up witnessing genocide. Fathers were murdered. Sisters were taken into slavery. Villages were burned. As survivors fled, thousands of boys began their trek across Sudan toward Ethiopia and Kenya, often seeking refuge from militiamen, lions and fatigue in the branches of the acacia tree. It was in these trees the Lost Boys shared their dreams of a better tomorrow.

Now, after more than two decades of war in Southern Sudan, peace has restored hope to the Lost Boys and their families. South Sudan gained their independence July 9, 2011 and now they are eager to gain the education necessary to rebuild their nation.

Sowing the Seeds of Freedom and Leadership Through Education

Lost Boys Rebuilding Southern Sudan is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization comprised of Lost Boys and their American friends. By sharing their stories with students here in America the Lost Boys teach powerful lessons of teamwork, perseverance, and forgiveness. Through their presentations, Lost Boys Rebuilding Southern Sudan not only raises the funds necessary to provide a high school education for the next generation of leaders in Southern Sudan, but they also help equip the next generation of leaders here in the United States.

“No future can be built on war and retaliation. We must rebuild on forgiveness and education. Thank you for your help!”

William Mou Chairman of LBRSS

Testimonials

  • ~ LBRSS Volunteer

"It has been inspiring working alongside this dedicated group of young men. They came here to America with nothing more than determination, faith and optimism and they have taught us all the true value of education. Our education is not only to better the quality of our own lives but to equip each of us to make our communities, our nation and our world a better place for everyone. The Lost Boys are servant leaders, they work tirelessly to access help for South Sudan while sharing their stories of survival that encourage all of us to never give up no matter how hopeless a circumstance may appear at the time. The truth of their message strengthens and encourages us to do the right thing even in the face of adversity. - Wendi Dwyer, active volunteer with LBRSS since 2006"
